Recipe Makes: 4 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes
INGREDIENTS FOR FILLING:
6 medium apples
3 tbsp butter
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
INGREDIENTS FOR CRUMB TOPPING:
1 ¼ cups oats
2 tbsp flour
5 tbsp butter; cold & diced
¼ cup brown sugar
DIRECTIONS:
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Wash, peel, core, and cut the apples into bite sized pieces. Set aside for now.
- FILLING: In a cast iron skillet, melt the butter. Once the butter is melted add in the sugar. Mix until the sugar is melted. Add in the chopped up apples and mix them around so the sauce covers them.
- Cook the apples until they start to soften up slightly. Once softened take off heat and prepare the topping.
- TOPPING: In a medium bowl combine the oats, the cold butter, flour, and brown sugar. Mix to combine, and it’s fine if there are butter clumps.
- Spread the topping around the apple mixture evenly.
- Bake at 350 F for around 30 minutes or until the topping starts to brown slightly and the filling becomes soft. Serve with homemade whipped cream or ice cream. Enjoy!
