Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Frosting

Recipe Makes: around 20 rolls

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Rise Time: 1 hr 40 minutes

Cook Time: 20-25 minutes

Total Time: 2 hrs 20-25 minutes

INGREDIENTS FOR DOUGH :

1 cup milk; warm (100-115 F)

2 tsp active dry yeast

1 large egg

1 tbsp butter; melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

¼ cup granulated sugar

½ tsp salt

3 cups flour

INGREDIENTS FOR FILLING:

½ cup butter; soft

¼ cup granulated sugar

¼ cup brown sugar

2 tbsp cinnamon

INGREDIENTS FOR ICING:

5 oz cream cheese

1 tbsp butter; soft

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer combine milk, yeast, egg, butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk until everything is well combined. Then sprinkle in salt and sugar. Whisk once again.
  2. Change the whisk attachment to a dough hook and add in the flour. Knead the flour in until all of it is well combined. The dough should be soft.
  3. Cover the bowl with clear wrap and let rise in a warm area for 1 hr to 1 ½ hrs. Make the filling and frosting while the dough is rising.
  4. To make the filling, you are going to want to combine the soft butter, sugars, and cinnamon together in a bowl. Whisk until everything is well incorporated and there are no sugar clumps. Set aside until ready to use.
  5. To make the frosting you are going to want to combine the soft cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together in a bowl. Mix everything well so there are no sugar clumps and the mixture is smooth. Set aside until ready to use.
  6. Once the dough is doubled in size, you are doing to want to roll it out on a well floured surface until it is about ½ inch thick. Next spread the filling onto the dough carefully so you don’t tear it. Start from the edges and move to the center.
  7. Once the is complete, you will want to tightly roll the dough up. And slice it into 1 inch thick sections.
  8. Place the rolls into a well buttered baking dish and let rise for another 40 minutes or until the dough is puffy. In the last 10 minutes of the final rise, preheat the oven to 350 F.
  9. Bake the rolls at 350 F for 20-25 minutes or until the top is slightly golden brown.
  10. Immediately take the rolls out of the oven and let cool for 5 minutes then spread the frosting on top. Enjoy!
