Recipe Makes: 6 servings

Prep: 20 min

Cook: 35 min

Total Time: 55 min

INGREDIENTS FOR CAKE:

1½ cup all purpose flour

¼ cup granulated sugar

¼ tsp salt

2 tsp baking powder

1 stick of butter; frozen

1 large egg; cold

1/3 cup milk; cold

INGREDIENTS FOR APPLE FILLING:

4 gala apples

1 tbsp butter; to drop on top

sugar; to sprinkle on top

DIRECTIONS:

  1. PREP: preheat oven to 375 F and butter up the pan.
  2. In a food processor, add flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Pulse a few times to combine.
  3. Dice up butter and add it to the flour mixture. Pulse for 1-2 minutes or until butter is pea size.
  4. In a small bowl, beat egg and add milk until well blended. Drizzle over over flour mixture and pulse until combined. Should create a dough ball. Don’t over mix.
  5. In the buttered up pan, transfer dough ball. With wet hands, flatten out the dough evenly. Close in all the gaps so none of the juice from the apples leaks out.
  6. Wash, peel, core, and slice apples thinly. Arrange apples in a ring in the cake pan. Starting with the largest to the smallest. Once there is ½ inch opening left, take 3 apple slices and carefully roll them up and place them in the center. Dice up 1 tbsp of butter and scatter around the apple rose, then sprinkle a little bit of sugar on top.
  7. Bake cake at 375 F for 35 minutes. I usually start checking around 30 minutes to make sure it’s not getting burned.
  8. Let the cake cool for 20 minuets before taking it out of the pan. Slice and enjoy!

This cake is perfect for parties, its super easy to make and you could make it a day or two beforehand. Just make sure you refrigerate it.
